Spatial Disorientation for the General Aviation Pilot by Dr. David Schall Spatial Disorientation (SD) accidents are under reported. Current Data suggests that 10% of all accidents are attributable to SD, and of those 90% are fatal. The average life span of a non-instrumented pilot who flies into IFR conditions is 3 minutes. No pilot is immune to Spatial Disorientation. This talk will review examples of SD from actual crashes that have occurred and how to mitigate and avoid SD.
